Our Classrooms

FFA_084L.gifAt Kids’ World Learning Center we group the children according to chronological age and developmental level.  We believe that all children progress at different rates and strive to challenge each child while stressing success.

Tiny Baby Room:  The infants in this classroom begin at the age of 4 weeks.  Infants stay in this classroom until capable of intentionally moving to reach a person or a toy.  Our policy is to “hold them, hug them and let them know that we care.”  We sing to these infants, play music, read books, and talk quietly to each infant throughout the day.  These babies are held for all feedings!  All of our Tiny Babies have their own individually assigned crib and we encourage parents to supply items from home to make it feel familiar and cozy.  Individual schedules recommended by parents are followed!  It is our desire to offer outside playtime in the spring, summer, and fall.

Crawler Room:  The infants in this classroom are capable of intentionally moving to reach a person or a toy.  Our policy is to “hold them, hug them and let them know that we care.”  We sing to these infants, play music, read books, and talk quietly to each infant throughout the day.  These babies are held for all bottles.  High chairs are used for spoon-feeding after pureed foods are introduced at home.  All of our Crawlers have their own individually assigned crib and we encourage parents to supply items from home to make it feel familiar and cozy.  Individual schedules recommended by parents are followed!  It is our desire to offer outside playtime in the spring, summer, and fall.

Young Toddler Room:  The babies in this classroom are steady on their feet when walking.  Our policy is to “hold them, hug them and let them know that we care.”  We sing to these infants, play music, read books, and talk quietly to each infant throughout the day.  These babies are held for all bottles.  We have a special table with built-in seats that is used for their mealtimes.  While some of these children are still eating pureed foods, others are transitioning to table foods.  We work with the parents in order to offer consistency from home to daycare.  All of our Young Toddlers have their own individually assigned crib and we encourage parents to supply items from home to make it feel familiar and cozy.  It is in this classroom that we work with the parents to transition a child from a bottle to a sippy cup. Kids’ World provides milk, juice, and water from cups often to help with the weaning process.  We also work on the transition from individual schedules to a group schedule.  However, we realize that this transition may take time; therefore, if a child is asleep during a meal we save the food and feed a child upon awakening. These children are taken outside to play during the day.  A child is ready to move to the next classroom once he/she has reached a minimum of 16 months of age, is taking one nap daily after lunch, and is no longer on the bottle.

Old Toddler Room:  The babies in this classroom are comfortable walking and running.  Our policy is to “hold them, hug them and let them know that we care.”  We sing to these toddlers, play music, read books, do arts and crafts, have Circle Time, and talk individually with each child throughout the day.  This classroom is a bottle-free zone!  Children are offered milk, juice, and water from sippy cups often throughout the day!  The children in this classroom are on the same schedule daily in order to facilitate a child’s need for repetition.  These children are given the opportunity to play outside numerous times throughout the day.  The children remain in this classroom until 24 months of age.  (Exception:  Just prior to a child’s second birthday each parent is given the opportunity to sign a permission slip authorizing short visits to the two-year-old classrooms.  The sole purpose of these visits is to aid in making the new environment feel safe and secure to each child.)

Hearts and Stars Classrooms:  The children in these classrooms are mostly two-year-olds.  They are on the same schedule each day, including an academic preschool time between the hours of 8:45am and 11:45am daily.  The children are introduced to colors, shapes, numbers, and letter names.  They are introduced to new concepts during a daily Circle Time.  They have daily opportunities for individual attention, small group activities and large group activities. Listening skills, music, story time, arts and crafts, cooking projects, science, gross motor skills, fine motor skills, and monthly themes are all included in their daily schedules.  Our two-year-olds nap on cots inside the classroom.  Kids’ World provides sheets and blankets for the cots that have been individually assigned to each child.  The children have many opportunities to play and gain social skills throughout
the day.

Three-Year-Old Preschool Classrooms:  We offer two classrooms for our three-year-olds.  One of the classrooms is set up to make it easier to facilitate potty training.  The other is for the children who have successfully graduated out of diapers or pull-ups.  Both groups of children are involved in an academic preschool time from 9am-12 noon daily.  During this time the children are involved in Circle Time.  The children know that it is time for fun and learning when they come into the classroom at 9am daily.  During this time the teacher reads books, teaches finger plays and songs, reviews concepts that have previously introduced, and introduces new concepts. Colors, shapes, numbers, counting, sorting, sequencing, letter names and sounds, listening skills, music, story time, arts and crafts, cooking projects, science, gross motor skills, fine motor skills, and monthly themes are all included in their daily schedules.  Our three-year-olds nap on cots inside the classroom.  Kids’ World provides sheets and blankets for the cots that have been individually assigned to each child.  The children have many opportunities to play and gain social skills throughout the day.

Pre-Kindergarten Classrooms:  Our pre-kindergarten children are challenged to prepare them for entering kindergarten the following year.  However, we never forget the importance of self-esteem and always present the lessons so each child will individually feel successful!  While some children are working on colors, shapes, numbers, and letter name recognition, others are working on advanced math concepts, pre-reading skills, and beginning reading.  Listening skills, music, story time, arts and crafts, cooking projects, science, gross motor skills, fine motor skills, and monthly themes are all included in their daily schedules.  The pre-kindergarteners also have numerous opportunities throughout each week to go into our special classroom to do “Work-jobs.”  This room gives each child the chance to work independently.  They love it!  Another favorite part of their day is SPARKS.  That is the time they spend doing gross motor skills!  Our pre-kindergarteners nap on cots inside the classroom.  Kids’ World provides sheets and blankets for the cots that have been individually assigned to each child.  The children have many opportunities to play and gain social skills throughout the day.  In May of each year Kids’ World has a Graduation Ceremony for the pre-kindergarteners.  Parents, grandparents, siblings, and friends all gather to celebrate with the children!  It is amazing how much these little ones are capable of learning in such a short time!

School-aged Classrooms:  Many children attend public school and spend their others hours at Kids’ World.  Many times we have had these children from the time they were a few months old and we get so attached to the children as well as their families!  Kids’ World transports these children to and from public school daily. From the time parents drop them off in the morning until they are picked up at night we strive to keep them busy!  We have computers in the classrooms with educational games to challenge them!  We offer arts, crafts, cooking, outdoor play, science, and more!  During the summer months the school-aged children are involved in academic review as well as numerous fieldtrips.  Many of our kids say they can’t wait to return to KWLC as a teacher someday!  In fact, currently we have three teachers who began their young lives here!

KWLC provides transportation to and from most local elementary schools in our safe 2008 Honda Odysseys.

Kids’ World Marketplace:  One classroom is set aside for the enjoyment of all children!  It can be a marketplace, a restaurant, a library, a doctor’s office, or whatever your imagination can provide.  This is our Life Skills Classroom!  Everything is labeled in this classroom and the children are taught to put everything back exactly where it belongs before leaving for the day. While in this classroom the children have the opportunity to use their imaginations and learn through play!
